Very close to the center is the famous "Castilla Channel ", that great engineering work of the 18th and 19th century to link Castilla with the sea .The objective was to communicate the center of Castilla with the north sea ,200 Kms away , to transport the corn in horse carried ships via the fluvial channel to the closest harbor ,to be embarked for export. The arrival of the railroad ended this pharaonic project, that left for the future memory 150 Km´s of navigable channels in the middle of Spain and an impressive set of "exclusas" with which the different earth levels were saved . A walk through the, perfectlly maintained ,ways along both sides del channel is a very healthful and relaxing exercise.
